Best Diaper Pail – No Proprietary Refills Required!
As a new parent, the Ubbi Steel Diaper Pail has been one of my best baby gear purchases. After researching multiple diaper pails, I’m so glad I chose this one.No Special Refills – Thank God!This is THE biggest selling point for me. Unlike other popular diaper pails that force you to buy their expensive proprietary refill cartridges, the Ubbi uses any standard 13-gallon trash bag. This saves so much money in the long run! I was shocked when I learned how much those special refills cost for other brands – it’s essentially a subscription tax on parents. With the Ubbi, I can buy whatever trash bags are on sale or in bulk, and I’m not locked into one brand’s ecosystem. This feature alone makes it worth every penny.Odor Control:The steel construction and rubber seals do an excellent job containing odors. Even with multiple dirty diapers sitting in there, I don’t smell anything unless I open the lid. The sliding lid mechanism creates a tight seal that really works. Our nursery stays fresh, which is especially important since we spend so much time in there.Steel Construction:The powder-coated steel is sturdy and doesn’t absorb odors like plastic pails do. Still the Best Diaper Pail Out There – Just Know You’ll Empty It More Often Over Time
We’ve been using the Ubbi Steel Diaper Pail since our daughter was a newborn—she’s now 16 months old. Around 14 months, we actually bought a second one and replaced our original. Not because it broke, but because we hoped a fresh start might help with odor control now that she’s eating solids and having more frequent bowel movements.What I’ve come to realize is that it’s not the diaper pail—it’s just the reality of toddler diapers. When she was younger, we could go 2-3 days without emptying it. Now, we really need to empty it daily or every other day to keep odors in check. That’s just part of the phase.Even with that, the Ubbi is excellent. The steel construction does a much better job of locking in odors compared to plastic pails we’ve tried, and the fact that you can use regular kitchen trash bags is a huge plus—no overpriced refill bags required. I’ve also started putting a small baking soda air freshener at the bottom of the pail, and that’s helped a bit too.After about a year of use with the first pail, I did notice a couple of subtle dents and a small rust mark on the exterior, but nothing that affected performance. Clearly, that didn’t stop me from buying another one!If you’re looking for a diaper pail that’s efficient, easy to use, and looks nice in the nursery, this one is still my go-to.

I wish I’d found it sooner (used for cat litter)
I use the breeze cat litter system, which has a pee pad and hard pellets. Three times a week, I bag the dirty pad and solid waste in a doggy poop bag. The trick is holding the bags until trash day. I had been using a diaper genie for about 5 years for this – a poop bag ends up about the same size and weight as a diaper – but the hinge on the pail’s lid was going out. It wasn’t great in terms of odor containment and I really hate the liners, so I decided to look into alternatives before ordering the same thing again. (To be fair, I did get my money’s worth out of that pail.) I liked this one for the simpler opening, generic bags, and metal construction. Just wow. I love it. This pail is much easier to set up and use. I can use a scented tall kitchen trash bag instead of the annoying liners. With the pail in my garage, the bag can go 3 weeks without smelling, though in summer when the garage is warmer I’ll likely drop that down to 2 weeks. (Compare to 1 week for the other brand.)

A diaper pail with sharp looks and sharper functionality!
As a grandparent of two small, wonderful, waste-excreting children, I love this diaper pail. Our grandson and his parents lived with us for the first 8 months of his life, and we tried another brand of diaper pail. The other brand had special bags inserts, and we had to fit the bag cartridge in the pail (luckily not often), cut the bags and tie them at each end (these latter two steps occurred several times per week). It seemed non-intuitive, and since we purchased the Ubbi pail in October 2024, shortly after our granddaughter was born, we realized our assumptions were correct – it is totally non-intuitive, inefficient, aggravating and illogical. With the Ubbi, you simply use normal garbage bags. Additionally, the pail is the coolest looking one on the market. It controls odors quite effectively, and looks good doing it. My son and daughter-and-law had a pail like our first one, and it had become so unusable for them that they were just throwing used diapers on their entryway floor (thankfully in the little purple bags to seal them – still fairly disgusting, but not completely cringe-worthy) and taking them out each evening to the outside garbage. I bought them a Ubbi pail which arrived today, and they were pleased with the utility of using normal garbage bags and were excited to put the sharp looking pail in the entry area, thus severely diminishing the grossness of the area. These are absolutely fantastic pails. If you’re in the market, do yourself a favor and spend a few extra bucks and get an item that functions efficiently and effectively and which truly looks almost decorative in comparison to other diaper pails.

Excellent diaper pail! Keeps the smell in (until you open it which is normal). Takes regular garbage bags which saves you money and steel sides makes it much more durable.
