Absolute Lifesaver for the Determined Toddler
The Munchkin Xtraguard Double Locking Latches are, without a doubt, the best babyproofing investment we have made! Before these arrived, my 18-month-old treated every kitchen and bathroom cabinet like a personal scavenger hunt, often resulting in spilled cleaning supplies or shattered glassware. We tried the magnetic locks, but they were a hassle to install and sometimes failed. These latches are the perfect middle ground: highly secure but easy for adults to use.Installation (5/5): It took less than two minutes per lock. The adhesive is incredibly strong—make sure you place it correctly the first time! We cleaned the surface with alcohol beforehand, and they haven’t budged, even on our often-steamy bathroom cabinet and the heavy refrigerator door.Security (5/5): The “Xtraguard” name is earned. The double-locking mechanism is brilliant. You have to push two separate buttons simultaneously to release the latch, which is exactly the kind of complex, two-part operation a toddler’s brain just can’t manage (yet!). He pulls, he tugs, he stands on his head, and the cabinets remain firmly shut. Pure peace of mind.Versatility (5/5): We originally bought them just for cabinets, but we’ve successfully used them to babyproof the fridge, the microwave (by locking the side to the counter), and even the toilet lid! The flexible strap allows them to work on corners and uneven surfaces where standard locks would fail.If you have a curious, persistent, and determined little explorer who sees household chemicals as toys, stop wasting time and money on flimsy alternatives. Buy these! They are simple, effective, and truly provide “xtra guard” protection.

Great for cats
These work SO effectively. I use mine to keep my cats out of the bathroom (broken door, so they just push the door open) and the trash (I tried a garbage with a lid, but they can smell through it and will knock it over anyway). I’m sure I’ll find other uses for themThe monsters weren’t very happy at first, but they’ve stopped freaking out when I lock the door lolThe adhesive is extremely strong (make sure you know exactly where you want to put it the FIRST time!), and it’s SO easy to click in and out of placeHighly recommend

Toddler-Proof and Easy to Remove!
Not only are these latches ridiculously easy to install, they’re also easy to use. We had them on our wood cabinets for the past several years and as our toddler began opening doors and many other things, she was never able to open these latches. We recently prepared our house for sale and removed the latches with very little problem. The removal process is a moderately difficult task, but if you take your time, it will go smooth. The removal process that worked the best for me was: 1. Remove the latch from both bases; 2. Using a medium-sized flathead screwdriver, SLOWLY push the head of the screwdriver into the adhesive between the cabinet surface and the latch base (be careful not to push the screwdriver into the cabinet surface!); 3. When the screwdriver is roughly halfway in, you will start to hear a popping sound as the latch base separates from the adhesive, which means you can start to push the handle of the screwdriver toward the cabinet to pop the latch base off (be careful to not dent the cabinet with too much force on the screwdriver!); 4. The latch base will pop off, leaving the adhesive; 5. SLOWLY pull on the part of the adhesive you messed up with the screwdriver. The slower you pull, the better as this will also remove the adhesive residue. Too fast and you’ll have a lot of residue to clean-up. I also used a wide putty knife to help GENTLY push the adhesive along at the peeling point; 6. After the adhesive is off, you can remove any leftover residue with Goo Gone or a Non-Scratch Scotch-Brite scrub sponge. This process worked for all six latches (12 latch bases) I removed. All were removed from the same kind of wood cabinet and NONE had any damage at all. The photos show where the latches were installed at the corners of two cabinets and a close-up of one of the corners. These are ACTUAL post-removal photos and NOT just an example of the cabinets.

Sturdy, reliable!
I actually got these to keep my cat out of the cereal cupboard in my new home 5 years ago. Yes, that strap is 5 years old and not going anywhere, and you can see the wear and tear from me using the latch for a solid 5 years. I needed more locks for other cupboards because miss kitty just can’t resist temptation and nothing else compared to these and was desperate to remember these. I stumbled upon them the other day and never jumped so much for joy. The ease, quality, value, and strength of adhesive are unbeatable. I pray they never stop selling these because these just work so well with my chemistry LOL. I can’t comment on ease of removal because as I stated, that lock is 5 years in. However I do recommend heating up adhesive with a blow dryer for a solid few minutes to remove and using alcohol to remove reside if surface permits. If I have to remove when I paint my cupboards, I’ll either buy another few sets or reattach the straps with another adhesive because I can’t do without these. The lock is superior to all the others I’ve tried, and I have a basket full of duds I’ve kept just in case. Buy these. I’m so glad to see the product is unchanged after 5 years because most companies “cheap” out on revamping products. Not this one.

Great lock, but needs extra adhesive option!
These work well and are easy to install. I just wish they included extra adhesives (or sold them separately)…I had one that I needed to move to a different location, and instead of re-using it I had to purchase a new set.

Bought for my grandma with dementia to stop her going into the fridge in the middle of the night. Works perfectly. Easy to apply, effective to use. I imagine would be particularly good to also stop small children getting into places they shouldn’t!

I bought try these as they were recommended for keeping toilet lids shut, without leaving a gap for kids to slip things into, and they work great for that. Just some toilets are more difficult as the edges of the porcelain are quite rounded.I also used some on melamine cupboards where we keep cleaning supplies and tools. They work very well in locations where you can wrap them around a corner. Easy to open and close and very secure.I love that they swivel, so on the toilet for instance, it will swivel out of the way, to hang down towards the floor, when not in use.Great product.

The Munchkin Xtraguard is beautifully made. I use it to latch to my jumbo toilet roll holder after losing the keys. Now I don’t need the key and the latch replaced it. It is so much easier to just latch or unlatch to replace the toilet rolls. It was perfect for the job. The latches are strong enough to do its job. It is well designed and easy to latch or unlatch. The latches stick well to a plastic surface. It is value for money and I intend to purchase another set.
